Title
Colangelo Brothers Food Market
Description
At the beginning of the ‘60s, five Colangelo brothers immigrated to Canada to work on the railway in British Columbia. After then migrating to Toronto in 1965, Brothers Colangelo Fruit Market opened to the neighbourhood. Three children, Dominic, Connie, and Nina, one of five Colangelo Brothers, sat down with us to discuss the establishment of this once convenience, now North York-staple grocery store. With a mission to provide Italian imports at an affordable price to the community, its consumers recognized such and have their latter generations visit this store. Through the much expected impact of the pandemic, their father, Angelo, was no longer able to work for concerns of safety. This was noted as the biggest impact of the pandemic for them—a true testament to the family’s dedication to the survival of their business.
